When I clicked on "details" button under each product, it would take me to a page that says "500 - Layout show_block_charasteristic not found". How do I make it so that it will show the product detail page instead?

You must be missing the file components/com_hikashop/views/product/tmpl/show_block_charasteristic.php
You can get it from the install package in the folder site/views/product/tmpl

Then please turn on the debug mode option of the joomla configuration and do a screenshot of the screen where you have the error.

Edit the file templates/vjt_metalgears/html/com_hikashop/product/show_default.php and change the text show_block_charasteristic to show_block_characteristic and that will fix the problem.

Thank you, Nicholas. I downloaded the file from ftp and tried opening the .php file in notepad++ but it looks like a bunch of symbols. Could you instruct me why that is?

The template you're using is encoded with ioncube. You will have to contact your template provider so that they can fix the name of the view as I explained.
