Characteristics Confusion

Hi - Apologies in advance if the answers to my questions lies in the documentation. I could not find a definitive answer in the forums, and my partner was unsuccessful finding answers in the documentation. I will try to be as simplistic as possible with this matter.

Say I have a shirt. It is available in red, green and blue colors, and each of these colors is available in sizes small, medium, large, extra large and extra extra large. The XXL size has an upcharge of $2.00. We frequently run out of some sizes as this is a popular product.

In my perfect world:

1) Add the color options red, green and blue to the product (shirt)
2) Add the size options (a child option to color) S, M, L, XL, XXL
3) Add a base price either a) globally for the product shirt, or b) once for each color
4) Add any necessary price variants for sizes
5) Be able to unpublish a color (if that color was not in stock in any size) or a size (if only that size was out of stock for a given color)

How would I accomplish this in Hiksshop? I am currently running the free version, 1.6.0 on Joomla 2.5.6.

You'll just have to :
- Go to "Hikashop->Porudct-> Characteristics"
- Create a colors and sizes characteristic

- Go to your product page
- Add the colors and sizes characteristic
- Manage each variants
- set the prices/quantity/availability...

Hi - Yes, that is what we did. I think where the confusion is coming in is with the state of an individual variant. If the size "small" is unpublished in the characteristic area, it still appears in the drop down list on the product page in the front end. If you select that size in the drop down, you see a message that says "No stock". Perhaps it would have been better to either not show the item in the drop down on the front end if it is unpublished, or show the 'No stock' next to the size in the drop down so a shopper sees that when viewing the drop down contents.
