general variant for some categories

Hi,

in an eshop some products can have 2 license types : standard and extended
both licenses should have a dedicated description to explain to customers in what they are different.

those products are split in several categories: business cards, stationery, flyers for example.

I was thinking to use "variants / characteristics" to create 2 different types of licenses.
But isn't it better choice to use "options: as price will be different ?

If variants:
1. is it possible to allocate those variant to several categories of products ?

for some products, license prices could be different.
For example a business card A could have:
- standard license: 5€
- extended license: 100€

a business card B could have:
- standard license: 9€
- extended license: 200€

2. variant allows that but in case of variant (as name + its description) could allow multiple price for the same variant type/name (e.g.: extended license) ?

3. I didn't find a way to have particular description for each variant so is it possible ?

Hi,

You must have missed the "manage variants" button of the characteristics area of each product.
That button allows you to edit each variant of the product and set its own prices and description among other things.

i didn't missed it, but this doesn't reply to all my questions :D
the fact is that i'm looking for something like the option displaying but with variant management :(

for point 3. i wanted to tell that i needed to display close to price, what does price includes..
so when prices changes, description of what it includes changes also... not the product description..

Well, from what you said, variants seems to be what you need to use.

In your first message all I can see is that you ask how you can have variants have a different price and a different description. And that's exactly what you can do via the "manage variants" button.
That's why I thought that It's what you were looking for.

Which means that I still don't know what you want to do if it's not to have different prices and descriptions per variant of the product.
Could you explain again what you want to do and maybe tell us why you think variants are not adapted ?

If you want to have different text for different variants next to the price, you can follow the instructions of the section 'I sell packed products, how can I change "each" text in the product page ?' of the FAQ:
