Shipping costs based on product category

I have a store with some products that will be drop-shipped by the third-party manufacturer. Their shipping costs are pre-determined, and are different than the costs I use. All of these products will be in one category in my store. Is there a way to apply different shipping costs based on a product category? Or, conversely, is there a way to input shipping costs on these products directly into the product itself, so that it uses that cost in the cart?

1. I don't think that it possible for the moment .

2. Yes it's possible, you'll be able to do it by :
- Using the "Use the prices per product" option of your manual shipping method.
- Set a price for each products through the "Shipping prices" of each products page .

One other quick question -

If I use the method you outline and input shipping amounts on the product page for some products, will the other products still continue to use the UPS shipping I have configured?

If your UPS shipping method is still enabled then yes they will continue to use UPS.

Okay. I have created four manual shipping options, like this:

1) Ground
2) 3 Day
3) 2 Day
4) Next Day

I have each shipment plugin set to use the cost per product. Now I need to upload a large batch of products with costs for each of these 4 shipping methods. How would I set up the upload file to do this?

I think that you'll have to do it through phpmyadmin, so here is a sample CSV file that you'll fill and import to your hikashop_shipping_price

Here is the order of the field that you'll have to fill:
- shipping_price_id : always equals to ' '
- shipping_id : your shipping method id
- shipping_price_ref_id : your product id
- shipping_price_ref_type : Always product in your case
- shipping_price_min_quantity
- shipping_price_value
- shipping_fee_value
