Best practices for updating?

When I updated to the latest hika from my subscription, it deleted all my modifications to Views. It's okay, I've put most of them back, but what is the best way to avoid that the next time I update?

Hi Jrod,

If you edit your views through the Hikashop view editor (Display>views) the modifications you did won't be erased when updating :)

Hi eliot,
That's what I thought.
All of my edits where done using Display>views, but after installing an update from my subscription, they all reverted to the original views.
For example, there is one edit that is putting a "back" button underneath the product details. I haven't put that one back in yet, it's not a biggy, but before I do, maybe I should look somewhere on my server to find out why all my custom views reverted?
I have a backup of the invoice view, so again it's not a big problem to put that one back too, but before I put those views back it might be best for us to investigate if my modifications where erased, so I will know what to do next time I update.
Many thanks

Hi,

It's not possible that the update of HikaShop remove your customizations.
They are stored in the folder templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html, like all joomla views customizations.
If you lost them, it's because that folder was deleted in some way.
For example, it could happen if you changed your template. In that case, you would have to copy the com_hikashop folder from the old to the new template.

okay, that makes sense. I updated hikashop with my subscription, and then an hour later I re-installed my template for other issues. So it was the re-installation of my template that reset the hikashop custom views, not the update of hikashop.
So I guess my lesson learned is best practices for updating hikashop is that there is really nothing else to do but to simply update if the custom view modifications where made in Display/View. But if I update or change the site's template then the template/mytemplate/html folder is very important. I did make a backup of my template before I re-installed it, and you are right, the previous custom views are sitting right there.
