Question regarding color-choice

Hi there,

A client of mine is interested in Hikashop for her webshop, but she really needs one option that I haven't been able to find yet.

She wants a textbox with the product, kind of like the options box, but a box where the customer needs to enter a color code.

She sells paint online, and to order the paint you must fill in the number. It's impossible to create this many variants, because they mix the paint for you.

What i need is this layout (kind of):

| | Color picker (Link to color-wheel where customer can choose a color)

Is this at all possible in hikashop? and if so, how can I proceed to create this?
She uses it on her current site, www.verfgoedkoper.com but that's one of those standard webshops. Nothing can be altered and tweaked so she hates that one.

Sorry about that but it's currently not possible in Hikashop.
The only solution is, like you said, to create a custom field with the colors already typed but it certainly doesn't fit your needs.

Is there an option to create a textbox at that specific place to let the customer type in his own color number and make that a required field?
Perhaps there is a plugin that the color picker is a popup where someone can choose the color and type it in the textbox?

I was thinking about that but I though it was not convenient enough
For sure you can add a what we call "custom field" of type text so people can type whatever they want in it.
I guess finding a color picker is not that hard and you can then add it in the product view so people will be able to found a color and type it in the textbox

Well, it's not the prettiest of solutions but I guess it could work.

I tried adding a custom field, but I cant seem to be able to create one where the user can fill in his own thing.

Could you point me in the right direction as to create such a field?

You should take a look at the documentation, you may learn few things about how powerful of custom fileds are

In your case I think you have to create an "item" custom field with a type "text". Then select the categories where you want to display the textbox and don't forget to activate the "include sub-categories" option if you want to extend it to the sub-categories. Finally, activate the "publish on front-end" option and the textbox should appear on the product page

Aaaah, I made quite a few custom text fields, but I thought it was display only.
I never looked at the dropdown menu type Only used text untill now
