I am trying to import brand names directly in mysql as create them manually into the back panel is too much of a time consuming process.
Is it any way that I can import csv (manufacturing_id, "brand name") doirectly in mysql.
I guess my question also relates to where is the brand name stored in the database?. What tables are involved?
Is it a back panel alternative through import csv?
Thanks.

Hi,

In the column "product_manufacturer_id" of your product import CSV, you can enter directly the name of your brands.

Hello Nicolas, and I right now am posing this question also...and as I mentioned I am having to start from "scratch" as the above user has not been back here since: Last Visit Date: 09 Oct 2012

1) I have created (1) test product for now, in order to EXPORT the CSV

2) The column you mention is "P" in the CSV.

3) This is not what the poster needed, nor neither do I..

What is needed? Is to Populate MySQL with Brands first, so that when New Products are entered, it is already there for Drop Down Selection.

For example, I have a CSV with 90 Brands separated by " , " that I want to pre-populate. So I do not have to create them one by one.

Once they are in? It will be FAST to Click Edit on Existing brand and Insert Picture..

1 match inside table rfuhn_hikashop_category and I also see it adds many other things needed?

That is what his and my question is to do.

category_id category_parent_id category_type category_name category_description category_published category_ordering category_left category_right category_depth category_namekey category_created category_modified category_access category_menu category_keywords category_meta_description category_layout category_page_title

The import system is for products data import.
If you specify the name of a manufacturer in the product_manufacturer_id, the system will create a manufacturer if it doesn't exist and link it to the product automatically.
The other information like description, image, etc cannot be added via the import. You need to do it via the interface.
You can't import manufacturer in the category table. That would break the left and right values in the table.

Hello and thank you for the reply..

re: That would break the left and right values in the table.

Yes, I figured that much Nicolas... So, what you are telling me is that I can not "pre-populate" the BRANDS before hand?... So they 'exist' for then 'adding a product'

And that each must be already in the master export-import template of yours?

Again, thank you for the reply.

Jim

You can populate them. Just enter them via the menu Products->Brands.

Do you mean "one at a time"? Yes, I know that...that is how I did it before. I have over 90 of them.

Problem is? That cart and database/server/vps the company shut down and I lost it all..with over 100 products and pictures/descriptions entered. And I have to make a new cart.

Even at 2 minutes each, w/out pictures that is 180 minutes.. = 3 hours of typing..

Importing, would be so much easier..<sigh>
