Products not showing when linked from Category

I am on version 1.4.4. The product was working very well when the menu items where linked to show products. I just added two categories and changed the menus to show categories and then let the users select a category to show the items.

I think I placed the four items into the FIT Camp category.

Well, I obviously messed up...

I only want the initial screen to show categories (2 up and 4 per page) with no products underneath and when I click on a category I want all the products associated with that category to show 2 up and 4 per page.

What have I configured incorrectly?

Here is the link

Please go in the menu Display->Content menus and edit the menu with the id 60. Try to save its options. If you didn't attached an associated products listing module to it, it will display an error message with a link to create it automatically. That should fix the problem.
Otherwise, you can also try to create a new category listing menu and the system should automatically create the corresponding module so that it works directly, without fiddling with the options.

I did this and clicked the "Create Automatically" link. Now it shows the two categories with this label below "Product listing for category listing menu 60" (Which I do not want). And when I click on "FIT Camp" it only shows one product.

Same problem with two menu items

So now you have the products listing displayed. You can go in the menu Display->Content modules and disable the title of the module "Product listing for category listing menu 60".

If you say that you have products missing from the listing, it's either because you didn't publish them or because there is an option of that module which prevent it from displaying the other products (for example, if you limited the number of items to 1 item).

That solved this problem. Thanks

Another question, is there a way to increase the size of the thumbnails shown for the categories. The actual file uploaded is 256 x 256 but the thumbnail is showing much smaller.

In the config under the tab files you can set the size of thumbnails. One thing though is that the thumbnail size will be the same for products and categories images.
Once you changed the size there, you will have to delete the folder media/com_hikashop/upload/thumbnails so that the thumbnails can be recreated by HikaShop on the fly.

Hi,

I have a closely related problem to the original post. Maybe it's the same.
Same Category links give different results

I'm using the latest version 1.4.5

I will have 100s of products which have to be divided into many levels of sub categories within sub categories. I want to show these within the page content so that the user can decide on the type of prints to browse without having to scroll through hundreds of images. This will be of no more than 2 sub levels. What I don't want is to create links to all these sub-categories from the main menu, as it will be very long.

I cannot seem to grasp the concept of Menus, Content Menus and Content Modules.

I've read and re-read the help files over and over but sorry, I just don't get it. I seem to be going around in circles. Unless of course I am trying to do something that is not possible :)

The nub of my frustration is this:

On selecting a link in the main menu (Shop Online) which is Type Category Listing, I successfully get a correct page which is the main Parent Category for all products - it shows the Title, Description and 5 Product Categories.

If I then click on "Limited Edition Prints" from the main menu, it too shows the correct content in the resulting page, which is a Product List. However, if instead I click the category link from within the initial "Shop Online Page", I do not get the products appearing.

I have created a Content Module and made the settings the same as I have for the link in the menu but how do I "attach it" to the category? I've done it for the menu item as an associated module.

I've attached some screen-shots to help explain.

Hi,

Normally, if you create just the menu from the joomla menu manager, it should automatically create the products listing associated module on the fly. You should not have to set the associated module manually. Your problem probably comes from the options of the associated module (yes, it has its own options so that you can personalize the display independently from the menu) that you set in your menu. If the synchronize content option is not on in the associated module, it won't display the products based on the currently selected category. Could you check on that ?

Hi Nicolas

Yes, the menu item was created from the Joomla menu manager and that works fine, the reason I created an associated module was that I thought that's what I needed to have the products showing on the resulting page after following a link from within a page (not the from menu).

I have now selected "Synchronize with currently displayed item when possible" to 'Yes'. Still I have nothing on the page apart from the title of the category after following the link from within the page.

If however, as you seem to be suggesting, that I should not have to create the associated module, then should I disable it? And if so, what is the normal way for me to display the products when not using the main menu?

If you disable the associated modules for your category listing menus, hikashop will create one by default with the good settings.

OK, so I disabled the associated module, and then within the content menu made sure no modules were selected and saved. I then clicked on the link to automatically make a new associated module. This is:
Associated products listing for category listing menu 69

I opened this and checked the radio button for Publish Yes. I changed nothing else.

The products are still showing if I use the left Main Menu but not if I click a link in a category listing page.

Could you make a screenshot of the hikashop options of that new module ?

I'm out of ideas. the options are correct for the module and it has been attached automatically so you should see the products.

Could you give us an access to your back end so that we can check your settings ?
