change the order of the characteristics

I have tried to change the order of my product characteristics. Although I numbered them and saved the settings, the product characteristics are nevertheless shown in alphabethic order, rathter then according to my preference... Any ideas how to change this?

Thanks but actually it was already set to ordering. If I save it again nothing changes. If I set it to ID the order changes to the ID numbers but it doesnt work with ordering.

I have found this number at the bottom of my back end Version 1.7.3. Is it the latest version?

I found out that it is version : 1.6.0

Is it the right one?

Thank you for the response. Yes it is set to ordering. I have included 3 screen shots: Front end view, back end characteristics view and my display settings view. Please review and let me know what you think.

The store is setup using characteristics/variables that I attach to a product and then use that as the option product to the main print product. Then for additional products I can copy my main option product attach it to a new main print product and be able to publish or unpublish the necessary sizes that apply.

It is urgent I get this resolved since I cannot move forward until it is. I know you are very busy and any help is appreciated.

Thank you for the response. I have tried this and attached the results in a new screenshot of the front end product view. I have also attached the view.html.php file as I modified it per your suggestion. Unfortunately, it does not seem to have resolved the issue?

FYI: When I view the product which has the characterisics on it(the one i have set as the option) it shows right. It is when I add it to the main product as an option that the sort order no longer works.

actually for us it also didnt work out to change the order of the characterisics according to the value we set. To have it solved we just set the ordering to ID and added the characteristics with the order we would like to have so that the first one has the lowest ID and last one the highest. The ID ordering works well for us.. The only problem is to add new characteristics.

I cracked my head trying to solve this problem as well and it suddenly hit me!!

First I added the characteristics, then the values, and then from the product menu i selected 2 characteristics.
The order was bad so I started playing with ordering - nothing worked - just like in your case.

Then it hit me - it wasn't working because all the variations were created from the moment i added the characteristics to the product.
I only played with the order of the values AFTER I added the characteristics to the product - that's why it had no effect.

I erased all characteristics and variations and added the characteristics again - and VOILA - it works.

So the only problem is to set all your values in order BEFORE adding the characteristics to the product.

alexxmm: Good idea. Of course there is the point you brought up regarding new characteristics. Which will be important for the store in the near future. And I would hate to have to redo all the charaxterics and option products from scratch.

lex131: Another good idea. I tried it just as you said, ordering the characteristics before adding to product, unfortunately it did not work for me. I am not sure where the ordering scheme is coming from...

I am hoping Nicolas will figure it out. After all, he is the man with almost 28,000 answers. Thank you again for your help, I wish your solutions would have worked for me.

Hopefully we will all have a non work around solution soon.
