There are some things I just don’t quite get and after three days I need some help.
First a little background. I am trying to set up a very basic website that sells one thing only…cookies.
There are nine different flavors and eight different sizes of packaging options. The final price is tied to the packaging option for each flavor.

Example a one dozen box of flavor “A” goes for $2, while a 1 dozen box of flavor “B” goes for $3.
So I just can’t put a price in for $2 for all one dozen boxes. I need to price each packing option differently for each flavor.

I just can’t wrap my head around the best way to complete this simple task. And trust me this is all operator error.

Should I make the flavors the products and the packaging the categories?
I am able to get some items to appear on the front end through trial and error but I get a lot of 404 errors when I try to select those items that are appearing in the menus so far. I think that is due to creating the proper menu items.
I am sure I am wasting a lot of time and effort in this but I am a “plugger”. It seems to sink in better if I keep trying and trying and trying but I am at an end here. I am sure I am missing something simple but I just don’t see it as this is not my expertise by any stretch…but then if you got this far in my request you probably already figure that out.

Hi there, welcome on Hikashop :)

I think the best way to do your business is to set, as you said, the flavor as the product.
Then, you can use the variant option to create as much variant as you need.
In this case, create a new characteristic named "package size".
Then, add this characteristic to your products (for example cookie "A") and Hikashop will generate a variant for each type of package.
You then just have to edit these variants to give them the right price.

I hope it will fit your needs, to not hesitate to ask if you have any questions and send us your website link when you're finished!

I think I did it a little different and possible a little more time consuming...I made each different flavor and package size a product. That's 72 different products. Not pretty but there are in. That was the only way I could see to attach a correct price to each item. I didn't look to hard at variants since I could get past finding where to put price in categories (as there is none) I didn't look for a way to put prices anywhere else. No biggie there but now I have stumbled on a much bigger potential problem.

In this age of spam why must anybody go through the hassle of registering and waiting for an e-mail to make a purchase. In fact let me put it another way. For our site for the immediate future is a way for a visitor to the site to just have their cart e-mailed to us so we can reach out to them and confirm everything in their order. While I know that might not fit the model of e-commerce for a very "local" cookie company it's the only way right now.

We want people to shop and fill their cart but then to just push a button and have the contents of their cart sent to us or "saved: somewhere on the site so we can find it and then contact the "customer" to confirm the contents of their cart.

If you are going to tell me that buying a paid version will be the only way to complete sales without registering how will installing a paid version affect the data I have already entered. I do not want to go through that again.

And if that is the case, which paid version will best meet my needs.

I would recommend to buy one of the commercial editions.
In the Checkout tab of the configuration, you will be able to change the "registration" option to "no registration" so that no username/password" is asked, no confirmation email is required and no user account is created while still asking for the address and the email address of the user.
Both the Essential and the Business editions allow you to do that.

And you won't loose your data when you install the upgrade.

But how does that work with my existing data?

I'll pony up the bucks I just don't want to start over on the input side.
