Product listing layout and product page

I have a couple of questions reference the products and custom fields.

Firstly with the product listing page I would like the opportunity to add text and a read more link so it looks like the picture below.

Then on the product page is it possible to have some text above the add to cart button like the second picture.




I think it may be achievable using custom fields but I would like some guidance please?

Yes you can do this with the custom fields, create custom fields with in the table product, then you can follow this thread to do the modifications:
