Add line item with custom instructions

I am setting up a shop for a client that does crafts. One of the items is hand knit Christmas stockings. For each stocking the customer can request to have an embroidered name added to the stocking at no extra cost.

For example:
Christmas Stocking - Red with White trim - Rudolph $30
-Custom Embroidered Name (customer would enter name to have show up on invoice and order) $0

Make sense? How would I enable this?

thanks,
Kurt

Hi,

To do that, you have to create a custom field on the table "Item" in HikaShop > Display > Custom fields.
This kind of custom fields is available only in the commercial versions of HikaShop.

I have a commercial version so that's good. Now, will what you gave me for instructions be on all products or can I just have it for certain products (which is what I wish to have). Not every item in the store will have special instructions.

Thanks again,
Kurt

Hi,

The custom fields can be applied only on categories, but you can create a category and add this category to only one product, by this way the special instructions will be only on one product.

Thanks for the very fast replies. So If I understand this, I can setup a category, in this case for all the Christmas Stockings (they all would get a name) and assign to the category.

The user would be able to then enter a name with this field??? I'm going to go off to try this all shortly.

thanks again. Very good product and very good support.

Hi,

Yes, if you create a custom field "name" in the table "item" on the category "Christmas Stockings" then all the products in this category will have the custom field "name" displayed.
And they will be able to enter a name with this field.

Hi, I'm trying to do the same on my website and I have the Essential version of Hika, but I don't have the table "Item" on my options for custom fields, is this is not available on my version? if so, how I can make this with my version?

The "item" table of custom fields is indeed only available in the Business edition.

It's not possible to do it with the Essential edition without a fair deal of custom development.

It would be simpler and cheaper to upgrade to the Business edition:

Hi Nicolas,

I'm not a great programmer but if you at least tell me witch files I would have to edit, I probably can figure it out.
I love Hika, and even trying to make a few plugins for it, but all this is for personal us on a website own by my wife and really can afford to update to business just for that feature.

Thanks Jose.

Hi,

I'm afraid that we won't be able to help you much on that as such things are outside the support that we can provide on this forum
