Sales Tax based on City

So the shop I'm creating is based in Vermont, so anyone purchasing with an address in Vermont would be subject to our sales tax. Everyone would not. I can do that. But some of our cities have a local tax added on (1%) to the state tax. How would I do that? I only write these after I spend hours searching and have not found the error I seek. If this is addressed, please point me the way.

Here is a thread which talks about a possible solution by changing the custom fields:

I'm pretty sure this is not as complicated as I'm making it out to be and once I figure this out, I'd love to do a video tutorial to help others. I am starting to understand how this works. As most people in the US have it, sales tax is charged items shipped to customers in the same state.
If I understand this correct I need a tax zone for Vermont. Do I need to list all of the towns in Vermont? But there are 6 towns that have a 1% local option. Do I create another tax zone for the local option listing the towns that have this? How do I tie the two together?

Hi,

You can see on this link how this can be achievable:

Hope this will help you.

Thank you, but unfortunately it really eliminates the international clients. My client sells in three tiers, internationally, Canada, and United States. In the United States is the state of Vermont, which her business is in. We have sales tax here. I thinking there is no way to add the local option to the 6 towns that require it using your software.

Hi,

I'm not comfortable with taxes, but will this not work if you add more tax zones for the rest of the world ?

Hi,

Just an idea like that.
You may duplicate the state in 6 states ; one for each city.
So, you can specify taxes for the specific taxes id but it would be the single difference.

Code names (2 letters, 3 letters) would be the same so the shipping modules would work too.

Could it be a right solution for you ?
