variant/characteristics import help

using hika business 2.0 and j2.5.8

i have created a characteristic seen here



i then created a csv to import the charateristic & it's variants:

product_parent_id product_code product_type TRIM PLATE FINISH
103872D 103872D-SSP variant STAINLESS STEEL POLISHED
103872D 103872D-SSB variant STAINLESS STEEL BRUSHED

when i import this, the variants are added as products, and therefore are not assigned properly...

what am i missing????

First, you need to have the values entered in you characteristic.

Then, in your import, you need to have the main product specified. So it should look like this:
product_parent_id;product_code;product_type;TRIM PLATE FINISH
;103872D;main;STAINLESS STEEL POLISHED
103872D;103872D-SSP;variant;STAINLESS STEEL POLISHED
103872D;103872D-SSB;variant;STAINLESS STEEL BRUSHED

OK, i think i finally understand...

the values can NOT be created by import, they must be done by hand first, right?

but once created, they can be assigned to product by import...
