State abberviation used in emails instead of name

Is it possible for the emails that are generated after an order is made to use the states Code 3 letters instead of the states name? I would think this would be a simple query addition when generating the emails? When we enter the customers information in something like stamps.com or UPS we have to always try to remember the abbreviation for the state and this can be time consuming to look up. Also, in the US, mail typically does not use the full state name, the normal format is the 2 letter abbreviation (Code 3 letters).
