Custom field only appears when product expanded

My shop is designed to sell equipment required for school. They can purchase 'everything on the list' for a particular year as one product or they may pick and choose the items required.
I have set up a custom field to capture the childs name as it should be printed on name tags. This custom field must be completed before they purchase the 'everything on the list' product....

The problem is that on the expanded product page the custom field shows up and is working

BUT it is not appearing on the category listing

I do not want them to 'add to cart' from this page without capturing that information.

I had this working in a duplicate test environment but I can't work out what is different here.

What am I missing?

Hi,

You have to enable the option "Display custom item fields" in your menu/module configuration. (HikaShop > Display > Content menu/module)
I'm not sure that the textarea can be displayed in the listing.
