Hi Guys,

I have setup an import routine which works well with our clients Export .csv file..

But it's not ideal, we cannot add new data to rows just change column headings really.

Basically, I used categories as:

Product type
-Manufacture
--Manufacture shortcode

Now, I have been using the shortcode from the export as the category to reference it's import to a neat structure. The pain about this is... that you have to click the shortcode after the manufacture.

I see we have brands.. but to me that seems like the same issue...

If I had a brand code this would work great, as the name I can update manually as it will likely never change...

Any ideas?

Basically,

I want to eliminate the showing of a 3rd level category.

Right now I have:

Products
-Tyres
--the manufacture
---the manufactures shortcode

I want to elminate the showing of the shortcode category but still show all it's products.

If I view a product list view this is fine and works.. But when I put a filter on for example category, it just reloads the category selection page??

The problem is I have 10,000 products to import, so how to I assign the products to categories? the products have shortcodes so the only way I could see to import successfully was to assign the shortcodes as categories otherwise I cannot see a way of importing it successfully? If the categories had an extra field i.e. shortcode

I think I have resolved the filter issue, its now only a problem trying to allow a hierarchy search, i.e. if I search category 1, show me results from all sub categories. even if this is an if no products found search sub categories.

Edited.. Just realised we can add custom-fields to categories.

Umm..

The first option you mentioned about product custom field will not work. As I need to input it into a category, for example.

The export does not contain the manufacture instead it has a shortcode i.e. AV = Avon so showing shortcodes for filtering is not an option.

I thought I could use the customfields on the category to import against, instead of category name, a category customfield but doesn't like possible either..

That is the perfect solution thank you! It would be nice... to have a category code listed in the administration of categories and even better if you could have multiple
