Metadata description of product

Okay, so I create my product entering all the applicable metadata information, description and keywords. Here is the question...

After doing, so and turning the site over to Google or Yahoo, will it catalog all my products? Normally this is handled by the Joomla articles utilizing the "index, follow" statement in the robots field. How is it handled in HikaShop?

Cordially

Hi,

I think that you'll maybe find your answer there :

In the next release of Hikashop you'll have the "Hikashop productTag" plugin, wich will allow you to have a better SEO score and a better "schema" for your product page (You can have a look at this if you want more information about schemas).

Hope this will help you.

Thank you for the reply Mohamed but I do not want to supply alt tags as I have already done so.

If a person does a Google search for a string, such as "Oasis of the White Palm — I4" + TSR, and I have a Joomla article with that information in the metadata description, Google will list my site amongst the hits. Such is not the case when I use HikaShop. Here is the web page for one of my products. If you examine it using Firebug you will see that there is no metadata description in the head portion. In other words, Google will never find my product - site. If no one can find my products via a Google search then creating a HikaShop e=Store is a moot point!

I am not worried about the XML schema tags, I am worried about the metadata description so that Google or Yahoo can find my product.

Hi again,

Then I think that you'll just have to use the "Meta description" option of your products page.

Meta Title is much more important to Google; Meta descriptions are used more for displaying details about the site in search results.

Use a good SEO component (Like sh404sef) that is good for meta management, and is compatible with HS.

Thank you for the responses Mohamed and SamBob and I have been entering meta description on the products page all along. I am referring to the "<meta content="Days of Knights, Newark, Delaware,..."> field.

This site will be a replacement for an already in existence site that does not meet the domain owner's needs, it being a loosely hobbled together set of pages. Joomla with the addition of some add-ons will answer those needs. For instance, if you plug into Google the string "Adventure Pack I — I13" days of knights his site will come up. Click into the second link for the game module. His store uses OSCommerce and I want to ensure that when I port the site over, using HikaShop, that someone doing a Google search will find the page.

If HikaShop does this out of the box then I missed something along the way, for which I apologize for taking up your time.

Can you recommend SamBob an SEO component module that is compatible with HikaShop?

Cordially,
Wayne

Morning Wayne (AU time),

Hikashop has the Meta description & title covered and it is very easy to generate/create your meta's in a spreadsheet and import them via a cvs product import.

sh404SEF is a good SEO compontent (I have it on some of the sites I manage)

And you might want to consider XMAPP for your site map creation and webmaster submission.
