Charging tax on shipping for in-state purchases

Hi!

I have my store correctly applying tax for in state (CT) purchases to the actual products. However, the tax rules state that the sales tax must also be applied to the shipping portion of the order. Obviously I do not want to add this tax to out of state purchases - how do I achieve this? I've been looking for hours!

Please ignore - I can see that tax is being correctly displayed and applied to the shipping rates displayed in the list of the shipping methods...

...however - my client has indicated that they would rather see the following layout on checkout and invoice:-

Merchandise: $ 100.00
Shipping/Handling: $ 10.00
Tax: $ 6.98

TOTAL $ 116.98

...apparently this is the normal and standard way that US shoppers would expect their transaction to be presented. This is showing the Merchandise and Shipping without tax, the Tax amount is the tax on merchandise and shipping and the Total is it all added together.

Is there a way to achieve this?

Sometimes it's good to talk to yourself!

I found that the solution is to turn off the display of product tax in the product page and checkout. That way all of the products are presented without the tax being shown and the checkout page shows the products and shipping tax amount rolled up into one total tax item which is what I needed!
