get products into columns in Artisteer template

Joomla 3.02
Artisteer 4

No matter what I do, any product listing or category listing is displayed as a single vertical column. I've edited the correct modules and content menus but the result is always the same. Switch to a different (non Artisteer) template and all is fine, I can dictate columns and number of items. I realise this is an Artisteer problem as it goes away when it isn't used but I was wondering if anyone else had seen this and if they managed to solve it?

Just installed Joomla 2.5.8 and Hikashop functions perfectly on the exact same Artisteer template so must be something related to J3.02.

Just a heads up for anyone thinking of going the same route, there may be problems.
