How do I set up Hikashop to require a quote for shipping before the customer can complete the order and pay?
I am selling fish and the size and weight of the package will vary depending on the number of fish ordered. I need to be able to provide a quote and then add the amount to the total before the customer makes payment for the order.

Hi tolson,

I think that it would be possible with :
- custom fields
- Some developpement (so it would require some PHP knowledge to do that)

My solution would be to create some product's variants, then your customer will be free to order the quantity that he wanted before going to the check, like all e-commerce website.

Hope this will help you.

Hi,

I think that you can do it by removing the shipping/payment views from your checkout workflow and activating the option "Payment of orders not paid immediately" of the configuration.

Then, customers would be able to checkout and that would send you a summary of the order. You could then add the shipping fees to the order and notify the user and finally they would be able to pay via the "pay now" button of their orders listing on the frontend.

Nicolas,

I have removed shipping and payment options from the checkout workflow and set "Payment of orders not paid immediately" to YES but when I place an order and select the next button I am still forwarded to Paypal to make payment immediately. Any other ideas? I need to make sure the customer is unable to pay until I can determine and add shipping costs.

Mohamed,

Could you clarify what you mean by "product variants"? Also I want to keep the customer from going to paypal until I have had the opportunity to verify shipping costs for the order and enter the shipping price manually, then sending the customer a notice to complete payment for the order.

Hi,

Please also make sure that you turn off the option "Auto select default shipping and payment methods" in the configuration so that the PayPal payment method is not pre selected and you won't be redirected to PayPal at the end of the checkout.

I have the system set to not charge shipping and it doesn't forward to Paypal but now I don't see how to send the customer back through to paypal after I add the shipping cost to the product. I see how i can send the customer a note from within the screen where I can adjust the shipping price but it doesn't send the customer a link to complete payment for the product.

What am I missing here?

You can customize the notification email via the menu System>Emails so that it is already filled with the message you want. And in it, you can add a link to the orders listing of the user where he will have a button "pay now" for his created and not yet paid orders. You can create a menu item link to the orders listing of HikaShop via the joomla menu manager and you will have your link. That's the same link for all your users so you can directly add it in the notification email.

I have been able to get the system set to provide quotes (not calculating shipping and bypassing the payment process until a shipping quote is provided), but this presents a secondary problem. This company needs the ability to provide quotes for a specific category of products and have automated shipping calculation for all other categories. Is there a way to differentiate a selected product category to use quotes and let the others include shipping cost automatically?

If you set a weight of 0 and a positive volume for one category's products and a weight and no volume for the other category's products and that the option "force shipping regardless of weight" is turned on in the configuration and that you have the shipping view in your checkout workflow. Finally, create a 'quotation' shipping method for products with a max weight of 0.001 and a minimum volume of 0.001 and in your other shipping methods, set a min weight of 0.001 and a max volume of 0.001.

That way you will get the quotation shipping method when all the products in the cart are from the quotation category and your regular shipping methods when all the products in the cart are not from it. And if you have a mix, it won't let the user continue.

Thanks Nicolas,

but how do I create a shipping method? Do I have to create two shipping methods? And what about the option that I previously checked for "Payment of orders not paid immediately"?

Hi,

To create a shipping method, you can go in System > Shipping methods > click on Manual shipping, then in the toolbar click on "New".
And for your case, I think that you have to create 2 sipping methods.

Thanks guys!
I have done the first step Nicolas provided "set a weight of 0 and a positive volume" and it is working fine for the one category so far. Now to test the second step with the second Shipping Method. I'll let you know how it works.
