Exclusive Product Options possible?

We want to offer thousands of similar products, each in a variety of sizes.
The products are unique designs made from a choice of materials, so only the size affects cost, not the design.
Though prompting for size can be done with a characteristic, adding characteristics such as color and material increases the variants and associated maintenance significantly.

We were hoping there was a way (or something in the works) to allow for exclusive product options - the user selects one and only one from a list of options presented. Currently options are each presented with "Yes / No". Alternatively, is there a way to have the price calculated based on area, e.g. height & width?
