We had some updates to the cart, and when the updates were complete it changed all the modifications that were made to the cart back to your original cart default. How do I stop the cart from reverting back to default everytime we have updates to do? I'm not a programmer so I don't want to have to get a programmer to fix this issue every time we do an update as it will get very time consuming and very costly for me. Please advise how to correct this issue. Thank you for your time.

Hi,

The changes must be done via the HikaShop interface in HikaShop > Display > Views. If you edit the view there, so you will not lose any changes.
If you edit via FTP directly in the HikaShop files, so you lose anything at each update.

PS: when edited via the backend, you can find the view files in your template folder via FTP, and then you can edit via FTP in the template folder.

Hi Xavier,
My programmer stated he saved the changes the way you mentioned below, however when we just recently did the most recent update of the cart it reverted all the changes that were made to the checkout process and progress bar back to default settings....ugh. I have to keep having this fixed from the programmer, and now he doesn't want to bother with fixing it anymore. Programmer states the cart is too unstable so he doesn't want to make the changes anymore because everytime he does an update it has to be fixed. My cart is set up so customers do not have to login, create or register, so this type of wording at checkout has to be changed to accommodate this type of checkout process. The register button needs to say "proceed to checkout", and the "create an account or login" at the beginning of checkout needs to say "Billing information". The progress bar needs to state the correct wording at each step of the checkout process. However, this all reverts back to default on every update. I'm going broke. It's becoming too costly so what are we doing wrong so this stops happening. I'm sooo tired, broke and frustrated :( . Maybe you or Nicolas from Hikashop can go into the backend and see what is wrong, if it's a cart issue or a programming issue. Something is wrong and doesn't make any sense. I just want my cart to function properly. I Have other cart issues which I have sent help questions on in other forum areas as well, and it's been over a year and still cart not working properly. Please help. Thank you so much.

Hi,

If the programmer does the changes via the menu Display->Views like Xavier told you, the changes are saved in the templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_hikashop folder as overrides of the standard view files of HikaShop which are actually in components/com_hikashop/views/
When you update HikaShop, Joomla will delete all the files in components/com_hikashop/views/ and replace them with the new versions. However, the override files in the template folder won't be touched by the update process of Joomla, I can guarantee you.
So it's not technically possible that you loose your changes when you update hikaShop if the changes are done via the menu Display->Views.

So there is only two possible explanations:
1. the folder templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_hikashop was deleted by something or someone without any link to the update of HikaShop
2. the changes were made directly in the standard view files of HikaShop in components/com_hikashop/views/ instead of using the Display->Views interface.
In any case, the problem doesn't come from HikaShop and there is nothing HikaShop can do to avoid that.

Also, before any update of a website, proper practice dictates that you at least do a backup in case something goes wrong. If the programmer who did the update is serious, he should have done that. So you can simply extract the files that were modified from the backup and put them back in place to get back all the modifications.
