Payment method based on shipping address?

Hi,

I noticed that the payment options available to a customer are based on the shipping address (when filled in). If a customer wants to ship his order to another country for example, he no longer has the payment options from the billing address available to him. Is this by design? I tried to find a setting for it, but could find it. Neither could I find information about this in the forum (Hope I searched enough; searching was a bit difficult because of the character limit in the search field), so I thought I'd bring it up...

It seems logical to me that the payment options are related to the billing address, isn't it?

We're using Hikashop Business 2.0.0

Thanks again,
MF

Hi,

Thanks for replying. Actually I have everything working just fine. The is no problem with the payment methods. All I'm asking is if I am correct in assuming that the availability of the payment methods is related to the shipping address, and not the billing address?

I'll explain a bit further.

I have a payment option that is available only for the Netherlands (iDeal).
When I go to checkout and use the same address for billing and shipping, there is no problem. iDeal is available for me to make the payment.
Now, if I change the shipping address (not the billing address) to, let's say, Spain, the option to pay with iDeal disappears.

So my conclusion is: Hikashop uses the shipping address to choose the available payment option.

And my question is, is this be design? Because to me it seems more logical that payment options should be depending on the billing address, not the shipping address...

Maybe it's bug that hasn't come up before since not many people try to ship do a different country?

Thanks for your time
MF

Hi,

Yes, the payment methods zone restriction option uses the shipping address is available. But if it is not present (for not-shippable goods for example), it uses the billing address.

If you want to ship to other countries, why restrict the payment method to the Netherlands only ? People from other countries can still pay with iDeal so I don't see any reason to limit that payment method to the Netherlands at all in fact...
Usually payment methods zone restrictions are used if you want to sell only to some countries because special laws applies for your goods if you sell outside your country and thus you are required to use the shipping address for the restriction (most countries laws require to use the shipping address rather than the shipping address in such cases)

But if you want that everyone be able to buy your goods, you should keep the zone restriction empty.
