Product Characteristics Menu missing

Hi
I have been trying to set up variations of products and according to the documentation should do this by first creating characteristics from the Product > Characteristics menu. But I don't see this menu anywhere. Is it supposed to be a third level drop down off the components > hikashop > products menu? Or is it supposed to be accessible from the dashboard? In either case, I cannot see it.

You'll be able to create your new characteristic through "Hikashop->Products->Characteristics->'NEW'".

Unfortunately that is exactly my problem - I cannot see any sub-menu to Hikashop > Products. Any ideas why this might be missing?

That is definitely the problem! Using the default admin template isis - Default, when I change the menu position to "under the title" I can now see the menu items but they are not clickable. The alternative admin template that I have available ( Hathor - Default) allows me to see the menu items but in a very un-userfriendly way.
What is the name of the admin template that you are using?
