Main product and variant code

I think we have similar problem to

We have product that is spray. It is available in two size 400ml and 150ml. The code for the 400ml is A73-001 and the code for the 150ml is A73-002. The default size is 400ml. How can we set this up. If you leave the main product code blank the system creates it own code. It we put A73-001 for the main product and the variant the system does not like the duplicate code. How can we set this up without creating two separate products?

If you want to set a default variant's value for your product, you'll just have to use the "Default value" options of the characteristic tab of your product page.

You can't have 2 same products code, but you can maybe use the "Add to cart HTML link" options and create a "custom product".
