Tax + sale discount questions

1) I need to charge tax only to California residents and am not able to make this work.
Here are my settings:
* I have set a tax rate of 9% for "California"
* I have set a "California" tax category and also a Default tax category
* I have set PayPal as the payment method
* I have created an account for myself with my California address
When I log in to make a purchase, add a product to the cart and check out, there is no tax showing on the PayPal invoice screen.
What setup step(s) am I missing?

2) My client would like to have a sale where a customer buys two items and the second item
is half off . The second item would need to be equal to or less than the
value of the first item.
How can I make this work in HikaShop?

Can you show me how did you set your paypal configuration through some screenshots ?

You'll be able to do it with discounts by using discounts restrictions.

Note that discount restrictions are only available through commercial version of Hikashop.

1) Please see the attached screenshot of my PayPal configuration. Once again, the 9% California tax that I have set up does not appear in the PayPal invoice window.

2) I'm using HikaShop Essentials. How can I set up the discount feature such that when my customer buys 2 items, they get 50% off the price of the second item?

I think that you should just set the "Send details of the order" option to YES.

You'll find more information through the discount documentation .
You'll be able to do that by :
- Creating a new category and putting your 2 products in this category
- Creating a discount and set the "percentage" option to (2nd product price * 100)/(2nd product price + 1st product price) and the "category" option to your new category.

1) I made the change that you suggested but the 9% California tax that I need to charge still does not appear on the PayPal Order Summary or in the purchase confirmations that are emailed to me. It's working fine with me, are you sure that you switch the paypal "Send details of the order" option to YES ?

Attached is a screenshot of my PayPal settings...as you can see, "Send details of the order" option is set to YES.
You said that it's working fine for you...I do not understand this. Did you register/login at my site with a California address and try to make a purchase?
I have registered with my California address and the 9% tax does not appear when I check out.
If I take the next step and I go to buy the item in PayPal, the tax does not appear on the PayPal order summary.
If it's working for you, why is it not working for me?
You now have screen shots for all my settings...what am I missing?
How can I get it to work for me?

I very much appreciate all the help that you've provided to me in setting up this website shopping cart.
The tax setup is the only part that I've not been able to make work.
This is the first time that I'm using HikaShop Essential and the rest of the setup has worked beautifully.
Would it be possible for me to send you my website login information and have you set up the tax?
What would take me a long time to do would probably take you just ten minutes.
Please let me know if this would be a viable option.

Sorry Mohamed wasn't there since 3 weeks.
Is your problem solved ? If not, can you update HikaShop and try again ? (the latest version is the 2.1.1).

The PayPal plugin send the order full price, so paypal should receive the price with tax. The option "Send details of the order" is not very related on the taxes.
It just send all the prices.
