hi,

we're selling magazines using hikashop and we're using a dropdown custom field (required) in the registration form that asks users to select a start issue for their magazine subscription.

is it possible to have a value in the dropdown that says 'Select your start issue' which forces them to select one of the other options?

we want them to have to choose but we don't want them to be able to submit 'Select your start issue' as a choice. they have to choose one of the others.

any ideas?

Hi there,

Could you please post a screenshot of your custom field configuration and a link to your page?
Single dropdown custom field doesn't include the name of the custom field if I'm right so I'm not sure I see what you're talking about.

attached is a screen shot of the drop down config

you can see the drop down in action by going here: walksandwildlife.co.uk/subscribe and adding something to the basket. you'll then see the registration screen where you can see the drop down menu

You need to add a value line with the "value" field empty and the "title" field filled with your text "Select your start issue". Then save the custom field and in the default value, select that new value "Select your start issue".
That way, it will display "Select your start issue" by default, and since your field is required, it won't let the user continue until he selects something else than the default value.

thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't work as hikashop won't let me select a default field with no value attached. i get the error message: 'Please fill the Issue start date field'

Turn off the "required" option in the options of the field. Set the default value and then in the listing of fields, click on the required icon to activate it and voilà.
