Change Access Level on Registration at Checkout

We are a not-for-profit business in Australia and since we installed hikashop twelve months ago we have seen significant increases in our sales and the online shop has proven popular with our Members. So much so that we are now looking at extending the use of hikashop to sell online training courses.

Our website has a "Members Only" area which our Members can access after registration using the access privileges of "Registered".

Our shop can sell to our Members or the general public. As we have digital downloads all public customers have to register during the checkout process so we have the "Simplified Registration with password" option set. When we move into selling online training courses all students must register wither as Members or Guests.

I would like to set the access level for the general public customers as "Guest" only and NOT "Registered" (which is the default) to prevent them accessing the "Members Only" content.

I have looked at the "User Group After Purchase" option for each product but this only appears to add an extra access level, it doesn't remove the "Registered" level.

Are there any plug-ins or options that can set the default access level during the registration process at checkout to "Guest" only?

At the moment I have to manually update every public customer registration and remove the "Registered" access level which is time consuming and not the ideal solution.

Many Thanks.
Keith

Hi,

And what about crating a new group like "vip",so the general public will have the group "register" and for special user you set them the group "vip".
Change the members only area group restriction from "register" to "vip".

By this way all the new customers will be registered without access to the restricted area, and the vip users can access.

Thanks for the suggestion, but we would still need to manually reset the access at login. Whether it was for our Members or the Guests.

I have found this plugin "User Group FTW For Hikashop" which seems to offer a solution. I am still testing it to see if it works as described. More detail is on this website extensions.4u2.co.il/hikasop-user-group-ftw

Have you any experience or knowledge of this plugin?

Thanks,Keith

How do you know if a user must be a guest or registered ?
He can choose at the registration ? (in that case the plugin seems to be made for that, I have never tried this plugin).

Or must he buy an item to become registered ? Or you change his status manually ?

Hi Xavier, Thanks for the follow up.

When a person joins our organization they are given a Membership Number.

If a Member of our organization then registers on our website they quote their Membership Number during registration and they then have "Registered" access with full access to Members Only pages.

If a non-Member wishes to buy from our shop - and we have digital downloads so they must register to purchase items - they register as a "Guest" and only have access to the shopping and public pages - NOT the Members Only pages.

The plugin seems to work. When a non-Member registers an email is sent to the customer with a token to verify their email address and once the token is activated their access is set to "Guest" only. "Guest" access enables the customer to complete their order and see their order status and customer details through the Hikashop menu "Customer Orders".

BUT the Administrator does not get an email advising of the activation with a request to approve the customer so the account remains disabled. Still trying to work out why the email to the administrator is not appearing.

Regards
Keith

Hi,

I think that the "guest" group must be a children of "registered" group else it can cause some problems.

The tree should be:
Public
- Manager
- - Administrator
- Registered
- - Guest
- - Registered2
- - Author
- - - Editor
- - - -Publisher
- Super Users

And set the access levels in HikaShop for to grant it for the Registered2 peoples.
To set the user group, you are probably using a third extension. So the problem is not really related on HikaShop, on HikaShop you just have to restrict the access to some categories - products - menus.

Yes, that's possible with the Business edition. When you create discounts, you will be able to select the user groups which will be able to see it.
