Prompt For Size When Using Characteristics

Can prompting for size be done when using characteristics, if so how please?

So instead of a default size automatically selected in the dropdown I would like it to be blank and when the user clicks on "add to cart" it prompts them to select a size.

That's not possible.

What you can do is to have an additional value "select" for your characteristic, then, for the variant(s) of that value, set a quantity of 0 via the "manage variants" area and finally, set that "select" value as the default one in your products.
That way, the add to cart button won't display until the user select something in the dropdown.

, do you mean that it cannot be coded to do this? I would kind prefer if the "Add to Cart" button is always visible... If it can be coded to prompt the user which file would need to be edited please?

I think it's important to do this because customers may not pay attention and add the wrong size so I think it's best to be fool/accident proof.

When I say it's not possible, I mean that there is no option or small code modification to do that.
As a rule of thumb, there is nothing impossible with programming, as long as you have the budget and the manpower to do it.

Next version of HikaShop will include a new way of displaying variants on the product page as a table with one variant per row and one add to cart button per variant. That could potentially help to foolproof your product page for your website.

Hi Nicolas,

This actually works well. The only thing is I think it may be better to disable the "Add to Cart" button rather than have it hidden as I think customers may not realize that they need to select a size in order to see the "add to cart" button.

For the moment, you can override the view in order to display the "add to cart" is a disabled mode.

I am sorry but your request of code is actually a mix between a feature request and a customization.
I said that I noted it for a future improvement and it is the case. But we will not implement it right now.

Is it the disabling of the "add to cart" button that you are noting for future improvement? And what is the feature request versus the customization?

I will see what they want to do and request a quote if they decide to go ahead.

Hi,

Feature request: A modification which will be added in HikaShop.
In your case, an option for a design modification in the variant table listing.

Customization: A modification in your website, using view override or custom plugin.
In your case, a modification of the view to disable the "add to cart" button.

The variant table listing has been implemented in HikaShop are we are currently working on other important features for the next release.
It is not planned to improve this listing in the short term. We want to have feedback before.
