Combined Shipping Methods

Hi,

I have two types of products that require different shipping methods. Our DVD's are free and users must only pay shipping. However the shipping fluctuates with the quantity. They each work fine until you put both types into the cart. I have set an extremely high weight constraint for the DVD's so that it is only applied to these products. However, the rest of the products use a shipping method based on a price table.

For instance, add a couple of the dvds via dropdown menu to the cart: mojooutdoors.com/index.php/swag-shop-lis...category_pathway-155

Here the shipping methods deploy just fine.

However, if you add another type of product that corresponds to a different shipping method, only one shipping method is applied. For instance, add a DVD from the link above and add this thumbscrew and proceed to checkout: mojooutdoors.com/index.php/component/hik...athway-93?Itemid=608

This should result in a $6.95 shipping charge ($4.95 for the DVD and $2.00 for the thumbscrew), but it just uses the $2.00 shipping from the thumbscrew.

Hi,
Can you show me how did you set your 2 products and 2 shipping methods through some screenshots please ? it would probably help me to understand from where your problem is coming from.
Thanks.

Hi there,

I think you should activate the option "Use price per product" for your second shipping method.
Then, edit your products (the DVDs) and with the new field on the bottom right, charge themn with a $4.95 shipping.
I think it will do what you want.

I have attached screenshots of the types of shipping methods. The method for the DVD's uses weight. The shipping charges for the dvd's are as follows:

1 DVD = $4.95 Shipping
2 DVD = $6.95 Shipping
3 DVD = $8.95 Shipping
4 DVD = $11.95 Shipping

The shipping method for all other products is based on a price table:

$0.00-$3.00= $2.00 Shipping
$3.01-$7.00= $4.00 Shipping
...etc.

As Eliot said, you should probably use the "Use price per product" option of your manual shipping method :).

If I do that, wouldn't it charge $4.95 for each DVD added to the cart?

This is the ideal shipping table:

1 DVD = $4.95 Shipping
2 DVD = $6.95 Shipping
3 DVD = $8.95 Shipping
4 DVD = $11.95 Shipping

The best I think will be to use both weight and volume restrictions:
You set high volume, no weight for one group of products, and no volume, high weight for the other.
Then, you create three sets of shipping methods:
one for high volume, no weight with the shipping fees for the one group of products
one for no volume, high weight with the shipping fees of the other group
and a third group with both high weight high volume with shipping fees summed up for when the two types of products are in the cart
