Manage variants afer CSV import

I've configured my products with many variants. The characteristics are color and size. In the product display I get a nice two-D table that provides a convenient way of selecting a variant. On each selection, the variant name of the product appears on top of the product page. This is awesome.

Each time when I import the product and all of its variants, I need to enter the window 'manage variants' in the product administration in order to get the proper display on the frond-end afterwards. Thi step seems necessary to recognize the unavailable variants and to remove the artifically created Hika product codes.

Is there a way to avoid this? Am I doing something wrong, that cases the variants to default to their artificial names (product_xx_yy)?

I think that the problem is coming from your imported CSV file, you'll probably be able to edit the "Hika product codes" through this CSV file by editing the "product_code" column for example for products which have their "product_type" value set to variant.
