Not seeing my products

I've read the documentation, but I still can't see any products when I click on a menu item. For instance, I have 2 menus on the left side: Fiction and Non-fiction (Books). When I click a sub category (e.g., Fiction > Ghost Stories ), I want all the the books categorized as such to show up on that page.

I've tried all the different settings for menus and modules, but I am lost. How do I do that?
