Dropdown menues on product pages

Hi Nicolas and Cie,
I'm at odds creating dropdown menues for my product pages, I looked at your tutorial but frankly, it is not easy to follow.

The site sells soccer jerseys. The dropdown menues I need are always the same:
1 Size
2 Version
3 Player
4 Quantity

For every product page, I must be able to individually fill in the attributes. I'm at odds where exactly to start and how to proceed. Your tutorial is pretty vague for a novice.

I just got a little closer.

When I add the characteristics "size" "player" "version" and "quantity" under "products" then I'm asked to add values. Now, I added the values S/M/L/XL to size. When I then on the product page add Size, those values are listed. I can add values for version and quantity. But now comes the problem: how could I possibly add players from all over the world, every team etc.? This would be ridiculous. Those players I used to add in Virtuemart individually on every product page.
How to do?

I have now in each characteristic put in a (default) value, e.g. for size: choose your size, for version: choose your version, etc. After I make a product page, I add the characteristic and they show on the right size, but where do I add now the values, like S, M & XL or S, M, L & XL? etc.

Hi there,

Your questions are a little messy, could you please write a post with clear answers?
About the characteristics for example, you first said you displayed the sizes in the product pages and then you say you want to display it.
For the players, I guess you can add a custom field of type input so your customers could type the player's name.
The other solution would be to create a characteristic as well.

Eliot, I think my questions are quite clear. Please go and have a look here .
Your suggestion the customers typing in what they want is not what I need.
For the players I need a drop-down menu which shows exactly every player of the team we have available and: some players cost more because we might don't have a name and number set.
I know it's perfectly feasable, because Jerome told me so.

Ok, so the solution will just be to :
- Create your "Player" characteristic through "Hikashop->Products->Characteristics"
- Add every player in this characteristic
- Add this characteristic through your product's "characteristic" tab

But what do you exactly want to do when you don't know the name and number of the player ?

- "Add every player in this characteristic"

What do you mean? I enter 50 teams x 24 players = 1'200 players in one dropdown menu???? Can Jerome answer me?

Hi,

You won't be able to enter 1200 choices for a characteristic. It won't work. Please note that you didn't specify that you had 1200 players so Mohamed assumed that you had only a handful of players which is why he told you to add all of them in your characteristic.

Simply create a characteristic for each player configuration you need and then you can attach the player characteristic that you need on each product.
So if you have 50 teams and that each product can have one of the 24 players of the team, you create one characteristic for each team and then you can reuse the characteristics on each product with the same player team selection.

Nicolas,

In Virtuemart (2 years ago) I made a characteristic for the players, without having to put any players names. So on every product page for the players I had empty fields where I could enter the names and player numbers of that players specific team, here in this example for Italy's AC Milan:

Should be quite easy to do, I think.

Hi,

HikaShop doesn't work that way.

You first create your characteristics with your values and then you add the characteristics to the products.
That way, if you have a characteristic with the same values which is used for all your products, you don't have to keep entering the same values over and over in your products. You only do it once when you create the characteristics and then you just select the characteristics you need for each product.

Once you added a characteristic to a product, you can use the "manage variants" button to be able to enter product specific information for each variant of the product. So in your case, that will allow you to enter different prices for different players.
