Is there a category menu for hika shop.

Like a vertical menu that will list all the categories and possibly the amount of items in the category?

Hi,

Yes. There is one installed by default. You can publish the "categories listing 1 level" module of HikaShop via the joomla module manager to get it on your frontend.

I am trying to put a menu to the left of the products on every page.
While I could do this at the joomla template level I wish to do it at the hikashop level.
What files do i need to modify? There is a div with class 'hikashop_products_listing' I would make this float right and smaller while adding my menu to the left.

Also the links from the module creates:
/hikashop-menu-for-categories-listing/ type links.
Where do I change this to something else.

If you want to add custom CSS to move the module that you display with your template position, you can add it in the frontend CSS file of HikaShop that you can edit via the Display tab of the configuration.

Regarding the links of the module, you can edit the module via the menu Display->Content modules and change the "menu" option for that.

I have edited the file:
components/com_hikashop/views/category/tmpl/listing.php

To my surprise during the last update it was overwritten.

Is there a way to prevent modifications to the template files from being overwritten like this?

Hi,

To avoid the override when updating, you have to make the changes via the menu HikaShop > Display > Views.
It will create a file in your template folder "templates/your_template/html/com_hikashop/category/listing.php".

Then you can directly edit that file via ftp.
And this file is never override, so you can update without any problem.
