add characteristics selection to product listing

Hello all,
I'm usig Hikashop Business version 2.0.0. and I need a hand with the code for diplay characteristics selection method in products listing. I modified already the file "listing" of the view "product" at my front end template via the menu Display->Views and added the code:
$this->params->set('show_quantity_field', 1);
like the website livingcalendars.com.sg/diary-planner-not.../44-planner-notebook

Hi,

You can't do that.
Characteristics cannot be added to listings.
You would need instead to create custom fields of the table "item" via the menu Display>Custom fields (Business edition only). That will allow you to display selection dropdowns on listings.

hmm cant figure it out...
all i want is that custumers can choose color or size from product characteristics at the products listing page
like this example livingcalendars.com.sg/diary-planner-not.../44-planner-notebook



isnt there any code like the code I added to Display->Views :
$this->params->set('show_quantity_field', 1);
to get the quantity box for the add to cart buttons on products listings ?

Once you created the custom fields and that you turned on the "show custom item fields" option of your products listing menu/module, they will appear automatically. There is no code to modify.
If you don't see them, it's either that the field options are not correct, or that the "show custom item fields" option of your menu/module is not turned on.

thank you for the answer, but somehow this doesnt work. There is no change at the products listing page. Still getting button with choose options..no dropdown and no add to basket for the product with characteristics. What did i do wrong? :(

As I said, you need to create custom item fields, and not use characteristics.
So first you need to remove the characteristics from the product, and second, you need to make sure that the custom fields are properly created.
Can you do a screenshot of your custom fields options ?

The same question about variants or characteristics on product listing keep coming up.
I already raised a question on the commerical job part of this forum but nobody seems to be able to make this happen. We are willing to pay for the modification (naturally).

This way of displaying products and their characteristics is seen by most of the other shopping software that exist for Joomla. And we want this way of displaying and NOT the custom field way brecause with the characteristics we can also keep stock of all the variants....

So hopefully this requirement will end up on the roadmap for hikashop or some programmer will read this post and is willing to code this for us !!!!! Lets keep out fingers crossed.....

Thx, I removed all characteristics of my products and I only get quantity and ad to cart button on product listing page... :unsure:

hope you can help me out with this...our custumers should be able to order products quick without entering to products page, because they already know the products.

@kernel64 As I said many times, the structure of characteristics doesn't allow us to do that. Some users have hundreds of variants. Just displaying one product page with so many variants is already a challenge for some servers so doing the same with a listing of several products would almost certainly make the page crash. There is no point in adding a feature which cannot be used. On top of that, it would be quite complex to allow for that. I'm sorry but there is no simple solution for characteristics on listings. I can only recommend you to create one product per variant in such case.

@rdalfred You created a custom field of the table "product" while I told you to create a custom field of the table "item". Delete it and recreate it with the correct table and it should show up on the listing.

You can maximize the number of variants to be used to ONE which is in most cases the case.
Otherwise people will install an other shopping extension and go with that.......

In my example I already built two webshop with other software becaue the shopowner needed the selection on the product listing view....
