Updating Characteristic Values

Hi,

If i add a characteristic and then give it some values i can add this to a product and all the variants show up just fine. However if i then go back to the characteristic and add another value, then go back to the product to manage the variants for this new value it doesn't show up. We spend alot of time setting the properties of the variants so i don't really want to go back and delete the characteristic from the product to get the new variants to show up. Is there another way i can do this?
