Hi,

1. You need to configure the Google products plugin options in order to send the mpn and/or brand and/or gtin to Google products.
For the brand, you can enter a brand name in the "brand" option of the plugin. For the mpn, you can turn on the "add product code" option. Gtin should never be necessary of you enter a brand and send the product code.

2. In the product condition option of the plugin, you need to enter one of the values that are accepted by Google Products. For that, you can refer to Google's documentation support.google.com/merchants/answer/188494?hl=en :

Three predefined values accepted:
'new'
'used'
'refurbished'

Hi Nicolas,

Now the products are refused because it's not possible to crawl the images. This is a robots.txt problem. Do you know how to set this?

Hi,

You can edit the robots.txt file via FTP. It's in the root folder of your website:
docs.joomla.org/Robots.txt_file

It depends where your images are located. The default folder where images are uploaded is media/com_hikashop/upload so this folder should be allowed in the robots.txt file.

I tried everything, but I can't get my products uploaded to google shopping. The problem: robots.txt can't crawl the images.

This is my robots.txt. could you please check what to change?

# If the Joomla site is installed within a folder such as at
# e.g. www.example.com/joomla/ the robots.txt file MUST be
# moved to the site root at e.g. www.example.com/robots.txt
# AND the joomla folder name MUST be prefixed to the disallowed
# path, e.g. the Disallow rule for the /administrator/ folder
# MUST be changed to read Disallow: /joomla/administrator/
#
# For more information about the robots.txt standard, see:
#
# For syntax checking, see:
# tool.motoricerca.info/robots-checker.phtml

User-agent: *
Disallow: /administrator/
Disallow: /cache/
Disallow: /cli/
Disallow: /includes/
Disallow: /installation/
Disallow: /language/
Disallow: /libraries/
Disallow: /logs/
Disallow: /modules/
Disallow: /plugins/
Disallow: /templates/
Disallow: /tmp/

Hi,

Your robots.txt is correct for that. It's probably because Google has cached your robots.txt file:
developers.google.com/webmasters/control...x/docs/faq?csw=1#h18

First, the cache of the robots.txt file must be refreshed (we generally cache the contents for up to one day). Even after finding the change, crawling and indexing is a complicated process that can sometimes take quite some time for individual URLs, so it's impossible to give an exact timeline. Also, keep in mind that even if your robots.txt file is disallowing access to a URL, that URL may remain visible in search results despite that fact that we can't crawl it. If you wish to expedite removal of the pages you've blocked from Google, please submit a removal request via Google Webmaster Tools.

I see, google got my new robot.txt, but now it crawls only the first image, but not the rest.

I have minimal of 3 images for 1 product, they all have the same name. Do I need to change that for google shopping or is it better for SEO?

Hi,

I think that it's better to have a different image names. For google shopping and for SEO too.
What you can have with the same value is potentially the "alt" attribute.

Hi,

I have started to implement Googl Shopping for my site as well and now trying to figure out how to change robots.txt file in order to make it work with Google shopping but exclude all other folders.

I see you've enabled media folder for search crawlers:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /administrator/
Disallow: /cache/
Disallow: /cli/
Disallow: /includes/
Disallow: /installation/
Disallow: /language/
Disallow: /libraries/
Disallow: /logs/
Disallow: /modules/
Disallow: /plugins/
Disallow: /templates/
Disallow: /tmp/

I'm just wondering if this is a good idea cause media folder contains many other subfolders including even payment logs.

Or maybe you've changed the entire folder setup in that way that only product pictures are laying in "media" folder?

well, I found the answer (at least theoretically):

User-agent: *
Disallow: /administrator/
Disallow: /cache/
Disallow: /cli/
Disallow: /components/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /includes/
Disallow: /installation/
Disallow: /language/
Disallow: /libraries/
Disallow: /logs/
Disallow: /media/
Disallow: /modules/
Disallow: /plugins/
Disallow: /templates/
Disallow: /tmp/
Disallow: /multisites/
Disallow: /external_files/
Disallow: /docs/

User-agent: Googlebot
Allow: /media/com_hikashop/upload/

To solve this problem
Just remove "Disallow: /media/" fom the original Robot.txt, and wait until Google crawl you page again ! =)

I don't think it's a good idea as Media folder contains not only images.
