I have been trying to research this problem but it's very confusing for a non-technical person.

Hikashop seems to say it is a server problem but my ISP can find no reason why the IPNs are not being received. Paypal has no useful information at all.

Can anyone tell me if there is something I have to set within Paypal?
eg. I found this url in another thread on this forum ( www.hikashop.com/forum/4-how-to/16819-paypal-ipn-setting.html ):
www.mywebsite.com/index.php?option=com_h...pl=component&lang=en
Will this stop the error messages?
Is this something I can switch off in Paypal? Why do I need these instant payment notifications?

Are there any other clues as to whether this is an issue with the server, Paypal or Hikashop??

Thanks for any help!

Hello,
As it's said on the " paypal error documentation " :

When your server receives a notification it needs first to confirm whether this notification comes from your payment gateway and not from someone else tried to validate his order. So there is a mechanism in place to contact a paypal server HikaShop knows as being an official paypal server to confirm that it comes from paypal. If paypal returns an invalid status, it means that the notification didn't come from paypal, so the notification was discarded. You can thus ignore the email you received.

You're issue can be coming from :
- Your server configuration
- Some plugins which are causing some issue to your PayPal plugin
- ...
You should check it and also check you PayPal log.

Here's a good one and a good hint to figure it out... I decided to install Paypal's Express Checkout. Made a transaction and it worked, got the IPN and everything else. Checked the server, checked everything, all to point at the Hikashop Paypal Plugin not working correctly. Anything you guys can do to help out at this point, it really seems that the plugin is not correct ?

We too are now expeirencing this problem - started about 48 hours ago.

No problem with server all has been checked with provider. No changes at all have been made to the site to cause it. Now have recieved confirmation from Paypal that they are aware of the problem

Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). Instant Payment Notifications sent to the following URL(s) are failing:

http://www.#############.co.uk/index.php?option=com_hikashop&ctrl=checkout&task=notify¬if_payment=paypal&tmpl=component&lang=en&Itemid=118
http://###############/index.php?option=com_hikashop&ctrl=checkout&task=notify¬if_payment=paypal&tmpl=component&lang=en&Itemid=118

If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information. If this problem continues, IPNs may be disabled for your account.

Am going around in circles trying to get this sorted. Is anybody at Hikashop able to give a clear, easy to understand answer, on how to fix this?

Looks like it I've got to the bottom of it. If it happens to you ask your server provider to check that all connections are being fully processed. My provider on first inspection reported everything was OK but digging in deeper the problem was found.

Hi,

@nibe:

The HikaShop PayPal plugin does work properly.
We're using it on our own website right now.

Such notification issue is common when the web server/website is not setup properly.
This FAQ explains what to check and how: www.hikashop.com/support/10-documentatio...or.html#notification
Please follow it and you should find the problem you're having.

Hi,

Just to clarify the global situation.
We use PayPal on our own website and it's still working as usual. The problem is not in the payment plugin of HikaShop but something which has changed on your website/web server.
Every week with have several messages about payment notifications not working and all the time it's either the website or the web server which is not correctly configured. So your issue is not connected to others.

@scratch:

It's good that your provider finally dig and found the issue ; issue which is already know but it's good to re-explain it, in case where something with the same problem read this thread.

The error message you're receiving indicates that HikaShop is not able to contact PayPal in order to validate the payment notification (the fsockopen call of HikaShop to paypal server fails). This usually happens when there is a firewall blocking outgoing connections from your server.
Here is for example a documentation page of hostgator (a hosting company) about such problem:
support.hostgator.com/articles/how-to-enable-fsockopen
