Paypal Error: where can I see the log?

Hi,

I'm having a payment problem and I'm trying to analyse it myself without asking in the forum (yet, unless I get more information!!). I have turned on Debug mode, checked the directory permissions are correct, but I cannot see any log.

I send an order to Paypal, and Paypal seems to have a problem with the Merchants account. But nothing comes back to the online shop. An order was successfully created and processed by Paypal earlier the same day and nothing changed in Hikashop so I am pretty sure it's not a problem on our side. I'm just looking for more information.
My client is travelling so I am unable to look at his Paypal log.

Can you direct me to where the Hikashop log should be created? Should a message come back from Paypal to the shop to cancel the order? Or is Paypal the only option to debug this further?

Hi,

If the payment is made while the debug mode option of the paypal plugin is turned on, you can see the payment notification log in the configuration of HikaShop. If you don't see any even though you had an order made with the option turned on, it means that no notification was received by HikaShop.
Orders are not cancelled automatically by HikaShop if a payment is refunded in paypal. You need to do it manually.

Actually, can I also ask where a record of the transaction sent to Paypal might be stored?
I need to speak to Paypal about this issue and I'd like to be able to tell them what I am sending to help them investigate.

I can see in my web browser address bar that I am sending this:

Is this all that is available?

So you'll only have a "record" of the paypal response, regarding the requests from your shop to the paypal platform, you should directly ask them.

But no detail is displayed in the log of the "created" order, even with Debug mode turned on. I can see the response when I get one from Paypal and there is a lot of detail there. (screen print attached)

Never mind, the Paypal error is resolved, but I do think there should maybe be more detail in the log so that future issues can be analysed better and more information given to external parties about what Hikashop is sending them. I have no issue with the functionality of Hikashop, it works great for me, but when other parties have issues they always want to know more detail about what they are receiving to help them solve the problem.

Perhaps you might consider updating the log a bit in a future version.

Hi,

In case of communication between HikaShop and the API, the log can be found via Configuration > Main > Files > Payment log file > See the report, else as you have on your screenshot, in the order details.

I already checked this log file, and debug mode is still on, and permissions are still ok, but there is nothing in it!
Why does Hikashop not record what is sent to the payment plugin? Is there something else I am missing?
Also, I can see details within the screen print of the return information from Paypal, but this information is not in the payment log file.

This is not urgent as I resolved my Paypal error - however I would like to know that if I need to analyse problems in the future then I can see details of transactions being sent between Hikashop and Paypal (or whatever plugin is being used).

If it is a setup issue that I am doing something incorrect then I would also like to know that!

The error log file allow to record the errors returned by the payment API but don't store the data sent.
If you have nothing in this file, it's maybe due to the permission of this file.

Hi,

If you have nothing in your payment log, it means that no notification was received by HikaShop, so please make sure that you have set both Debug and Allow payment notifications from PayPal options to YES.
Also what is the status of your order after your tests ?
