Hi,

1. I don't think this could work. It's really meant to be used together with a USB barcode scanner. This can be purchased for really cheap online.

2. No, the plugin was made specifically for the HikaShop backend. It could be made to work with HikaMarket on the frontend, but it would require some development work.

Hi Nicolas,
in first of all, as always, really many thanks for your reply.
Then, I want to specify once more that I am writing thinking that they are really very important, critical functions (HikaMarket Multi Vendors point of view) and that HikaShop is very close to the solution.

1 - "...This can be purchased for really cheap online.." = Sure. But this is not a cost question (Google Lens" App, in the example, is a free App), this is a User Friendly question.
To have the Scanner in a mobile device (App) means for workers (Vendors) that they do not need to carry any device with them and can Scan on the fly, anywhere in the warehouse (without being tied to the USB).
Also, consider that there are objects that can be brought close to the Scanner, but 90% of the time it is the Scanner that has to approach the object to read the code. Approaching objects to show code is a job, while scanning with the camera is not.
Maybe, the simplest right approach can be: Internet > Logged (User Permissions) and "that's all", like the HikaSerial is doing

2 - Well, we are using HikaMarket Multi Vendor, so, for us to have it working with Vendors (and its ...) in the frontend is a must.

3 - The warehouses stock management should be considered , but, as far as I understand, it shouldn't create any complications to the Barcode plugin

Hi,

1. I don't see how Google lens could help with that.
What would be possible would be to add this library : github.com/serratus/quaggaJS
We would add an extra button "scan barcode" to the plugin's interface in the backend which would open an area with the smartphone camera to scan the barcode and fill the input field with the barcode number found by that library.

2. If you need vendor to use it, it would indeed be necessary.

3. Yes, the plugin doesn't need to know about warehouses. It can just update the products stock regardless.

Hi Nicolas,

1 - "Google Lens" = As I wrote, It was just an example of a "Virtual" Scanner (App, instead of USB)
For sure your suggestion is better, and:

1A - Maybe this Html5-QRCode can be better, because:
- is newer (last update on 07 Apr 2022);
- it can read "QR code, bar code, and other common code scanning capabilities";
- is lighter (the zip file is 9.7 MB instead of 18.5 MB );

2A - Would be useful to integrate it into HikaShop default and to "update" HikaSerial process to run on it (instead to need of external Apps)

Do you agree ?

2 - Staying tuned

3 - Got it, Thanks!

Hi,

1A Indeed, that library sounds better. Thanks for your input.

2A You mean to integrate that library to HikaSerial in the future ? That could be an option, yes.

Hi Nicolas,

1A - Happy to cooperate

2A - I mean that by adding that library to HikaShop "by default", also HikaSerial could also take advantage of it and update this workflow used up to now with this smarter, user friendly, internal solution...

2A Yes. Once we have a working solution with the plugin it will be nice to add this to HikaSerial to scan serial barcodes

Hi,

We've made a new release of the plugin today with several new things, including some proposed here.
I've just updated the page on the marketplace accordingly:
