Display some shipment options for specific items

Hi,
On my website i offer 6 different shipping methods,3 types of shipment for big items and 3 types for small items. The problem is that you can see all types of shipment on all items so you end up with 6 shipment options which 3 of them are unavailable to you (because you either want a big item or a small).
I was wandering if its possible to show only 3 shipment options per item (depending on if its big or small. Here i have a screenshot. I also asked on a different thread if it is possible to display the shipment methods on a drop down list instead of those buttons,or show the buttons one next to the other,so that they take less space,and i did get an answer but it was short and i didnt understood how to do this.

1. In the configuration of each shipping method, you can set restrictions to which they apply, incl weight and/or volume. This way you can limit shipping methods to products with certain sizes or weights.

Edit:
I may add that you could also use "Zones" (and restrictions again, accordingly) to further reduce the number of shipping methods displayed, so that a customer sees only methods relevant for his location. In your case it seems you'll need 3 zones: UK, Europe (except UK), and "Rest of the World".
